Learning Outcomes

Speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) is now the most common primary type of need. It currently sits at over 1/4th of the SEND pupils with a shocking 22% children having challenges in this area. That’s over 330,000 children.

 

This inclusive course will empower all staff working in primary, secondary and SEND settings to develop the speech, language and communication skills of ALL children. The workshop will cover practical advice and varied strategies that will support children with an array of challenges in speech whether that’s delay, communication challenges or English as an additional language.

  • Gain an understanding of the importance of the speech, language and communication development for every pupil and identify how children’s behaviour can be a form of communication.

  • Learn to differentiate between expressive and receptive language and understand how our adult communication can impact on a child’s language.

  • Explore the importance of the development of social communication skills and learn how and why we use visual signposts with learners.

  • Understand the importance of working with parents to help develop speech, language and communication skills.

  • Gain practical advice and strategies on how to implement changes in to everyday practice.
